Professional Development Grants
Professional Development Grants are given throughout the year to enable the Council to respond to artists', teachers', or organizations' professional development needs. Grants will not exceed $1,000 for organizations and $750 for individuals, and decisions will be dictated by the availability of funds and the nature of the request. Grants must be matched dollar-for-dollar in cash and in kind goods and services. Awards will be made directly by the Council and applications are reviewed monthly. Applications must be received in the Montana Arts Council office by the first of each month.
The review panel meets by teleconference on the second Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. These conferences are open to the public. You may listen in at the Montana Arts Council's office. Please call in advance to confirm your attendance. Applications will be considered until all funds are expended. Please call before applying to determine if funds are available. A 1:1 match in cash or in-kind revenues is required.
Eligibility: The Council is able to fund only individuals, 501(c)(3) organizations, and units of government. Due to limited resources, organizations that have received $2,000 or more from the Montana Arts Council Public Value Partnership grants are ineligible for Professional Development Grants. Applicants may receive nor more than one Professional Development Grant per year The Arts Council considers funding non-arts organizations only for those projects that enhance the arts or folk arts in local communities. The Council also considers funding the arts components of cultural tourism projects. The program funds only those individual artists who are US citizens and have been Montana residents for at least one year and are seriously pursuing their art as a profession. Artists should demonstrate this through their resume or bio. In addition, individuals applying need to demonstrate how the project will benefit others beside themselves.
